Pedestrian Accident Reconstruction & Investigation

Pedestrian Accident Reconstruction & Investigation

Vehicle vs. pedestrian collisions usually result in injuries to pedestrians and sometimes even drivers.  In conjunction with standard accident reconstruction and investigative protocol, a pedestrian accident reconstruction has a number of different elements and is extremely complex.

Everyone is a pedestrian at some point in his/her trip, whether coming from the doorstep, bus stop, walking across road, through parking lot, etc.

“Pedestrian” is commonly defined as any person afoot, a foot traveler, or “any natural person afoot.”  Additionally, many states include as pedestrians a person in a disability device such as a wheelchair, a roller skater or a person using a skateboard.

A pedestrian is any person who is not a vehicle occupant, but a pedestrian is also considered to be a traffic unit in an accident.  Pedestrians are subject to traffic laws just as are motorists.

Pedestrian Accident Reconstruction & Investigation Specialists

All Introtech Reconstructionists have specialized training in this category of crash, skilled in the use of all acceptable mathematical solutions to calculate the speed of involved vehicles and can complete a comprehensive analysis of vehicle/pedestrian collisions.

With most of our staff being former law enforcement officers we are familiar with the traffic laws, as well as strategy and tactics that apply to the pedestrian and the operator of the motor vehicle.  We apply this additional knowledge to the investigation and analysis.

In this category of accident we typically resolve one or more of the following issues:

  • Speeds of the vehicles/pedestrian
  • Strategy and tactics of all units involved
  • Nighttime discernibility and conspicuity issues
  • Adherence to applicable traffic laws
  • Avoidability
  • Injury mechanism
  • First contact positions
  • Possible suicide or homicide
