Biography of James Crawford

James Crawford is a retired Coast Guard Captain who operated Coast Guard cutters and flew both fixed and rotary winged aircraft. He served as Chief of the Coast Guard’s Command Center and as Chief of the Avionics Branch of the Coast Guard’s Aeronautical Engineering Division.  He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and a Master of Science degree in Aeronautical Engineering.

While in the Coast Guard he investigated numerous vessel and motor vehicle crashes.  Mr. Crawford’s capacity ranged from Search and Rescue Coordinator to Chief Accident Investigator.

Mr. Crawford’s formal training in accident reconstruction includes crash investigation and reconstruction courses from Northwestern University, University of North Florida (I.P.T.M.), Northcoast Polytechnic Institute, the University of California at Riverside and the University of Southern California, as well as numerous specialized courses in accident reconstruction.  He has taught various courses in the fields of biomechanics, motor vehicle, aircraft, and watercraft accident reconstruction.

Mr. Crawford is a member of the National Association of Professional Accident Reconstruction Specialists (N.A.P.A.R.S.), Maryland Association of Traffic Accident Investigators, Inc. (M.A.T.A.I.), Ohio Traffic Accident Reconstruction Association (O.T.A.R.A.), the Accident Reconstruction Communications Network, the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the International Traffic Medicine Association, the International Association of Marine Investigators (IAMI), the National Boat Owners Association (NBOA) and the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA). Mr. Crawford is also proficient in 3-D drawing, animation and simulation programs and serves as a member of Introtech’s in-house drafting and animation team.
