Biography of Choya Hawn

Choya Hawn comes to the Introtech team with over 26 years of experience as a field trooper and crash investigator with the Ohio State Highway Patrol. After completion of his basic training at the Ohio State Highway Patrol Academy he was commissioned as a Trooper in January 1978. He served at the Swanton, Castalia/Milan, and Sandusky posts of the State Highway Patrol until his retirement from the Milan Post on the Ohio Turnpike in May of 2004. During his career he was called upon to investigate or assist other investigators with the most serious and complicated crashes in North Central Ohio.

His training in formal crash reconstruction includes: Basic Police Officer Training, Ohio State Highway Patrol Academy, Post-Graduate and Technical Crash Investigation training from the Ohio Highway Patrol, Reconstruction Training from The University of North Florida (IPTM), and Watercraft Crash Investigation and Incident Reconstruction from Introtech, and ACTAR Accreditation #1592. Mr. Hawn also has associate degrees from Terra Community College in Fremont, Ohio in both Law Enforcement and Police Administration.

Since 1986, he has also worked as an Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy (OPOTA) certified police basic instructor. He has taught Accident Investigation and has additional certification for teaching both Defensive/Emergency/Pursuit Driving and Firearms. Mr. Hawn has participated in competitive shooting sports throughout his career, and is an accomplished marksman. He has attended numerous weapons training courses and is also experienced at ammunition reloading. He was one of a six member weapon search and selection committee responsible for the testing and selection of a new service weapon (Sig Sauer Model P226) for the Ohio Highway Patrol in 1997. Mr. Hawn brings yet another dimension to Introtech with his training and experience in shooting, firearms, ballistics, and use of force.

During his career at Introtech, Mr. Hawn has been assigned as one of the electronic data specialists and along with Mr. Crawford helps keep Introtech on the cutting edge of this rapidly evolving technology. Mr. Hawn has received training from Collision Safety Institute (C.S.I.) and the Institute of Police Technology and Management (I.P.T.M.) in the collection and analysis of event data from airbag, power-train and roll-over modules. He has also received specialized training from I.P.T.M. in the collection of EDR data from the engine control modules (ECM’s) of heavy trucks.

Mr. Hawn has been trained in the FARO Reality CAD drawing, animation and point cloud program and serves as a member of Introtech’s in-house drafting and animation team. Mr. Hawn has also been a repeat instructor with the Introtech training program, teaching in a number of reconstruction level topics.

He is a member of the National Association of Professional Accident Reconstruction Specialists (NAPARS), OTARA (Ohio Traffic Accident Reconstruction Association), IATAI Illinois Association of Traffic Accident Investigators, International Association of Marine Investigators (IAMI), the National Rifle Association (NRA), and is the Past State Treasurer of the Ohio Troopers Coalition.
